Incense of the day: Rose This date, according to the ancient Roman calendar, began an important week-long celebration honoring Cybele, the Great Mother Goddess, the deity who was credited for creating everything. All creatures, humans, animals, plants, trees, even the gods were created by her and under Cybele's control. Her role is so complex and her strength so great, to honor her it is best to keep your ritual simple. Here is one idea. Decorate your altar with pine and a small bouquet of wild violets, both of which are associated with her. In the center of your altar, place one plain, white, hard-boiled egg as a symbol of the eternal life cycle-birth, death, and rebirth. Thank Cybele by saying: Great Mother, Guardian of all, Hear me and favor me with your bounty. Eat the egg and crush the shell, scattering it on the earth. Or, keep the shell for a future spell. |
