Spell: Celebrate the Grain Goddess

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

In ancient Rome, today marked the beginning of the Cerealia, a week long celebration honoring Ceres, the grain goddess. She was held in high regard by farmers and is believed to have shared her knowledge of agriculture with mortals. Begin this day by making your breadfast a ritual, and let your kitchen table become an altar. Prepare and eat your cereal mindfully; savor the aroma of your toast. If it's possible, have your family eat breakfast together, and visualize fields of grain ripening. It's easy to forget in our modern high-tech world that the domestication of humble grains, such as wheat and corn, fueled the beginning of civilization. If you perform any rituals today, focus on fertility and growth. Place a dish of grain or cereal on your altar as a centerpiece. And today, cover your altar with a simple white cloth and burn only white candles. White is the color that represents Ceres.
