Forgiveness has more to do with you than the person you forgive. Alexander Pope said it well: "To err is human; to forgive, divine." To start the process, make a forgiveness stone.
Find a stone big enough to fill your hand. Holding it, think about the wrong done to you, the person who committed it, and all the details and feelings associated with it. Write everything on the stone in chalk, and visualize the stone absorbing all of it like a sponge. Take the stone to a place of running water. Meditate on it one last time, then throw it into the water, with these words: "We've been together long enough, And now I set you free. The forgiveness that I give to you Is freedom, too, for me." The water will wash away any lingering negativity. Knowing this, turn and walk away. |
