Spell: Communicating with a Gnome

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

This spell will assist you in contacting a gnome: an earth elemental. Typically, these beings provide strength, steadfastness, endurance, and the ability of transmutation. Invoke them when you feel weak, unruly, or in danger of being led astray.

You will need a black candle and a simple rock large enough to at least nearly fill the palm of your hand.

Face the north, or the direction your tradition associates with the earth element. Ground and center. Place the candle on your altar, with the rock in front of it so that from your vantage point the rock completely obscures the candle flame. Enter a trance and gaze at the rock so that you can see the light of the candle around it. Call to the gnomes—the conscious beings of earth—to appear before you:

Creatures of the silent earth,
Reveal here to me your form.

Look into the stone with the Witch’s eye: your inner sight. Allow the gnomes to reveal themselves to you. Once they have, you may commune with them as you wish.
