Spell: First Fruits

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Lughnasadh has roots in Irish mythology and legend as a festival in honor of the god Lugh. This day has come to be celebrated in many ways, including acknowledging the first harvest. Create your own First Fruits blessing by buying some local produce today or, even better, harvest from your own garden if you can. Any type of food item can be used for the blessing—fruit, vegetable, grain, or herb. After you’ve selected your item to symbolize the harvest, decorate your altar with seasonal items and candles. Place your “first fruit” in the center and chant this blessing for abundance:

Bless this harvest, Earth sustain us,
flower, fruit, and grain.
Bring abundance, Earth maintain us,
blessed be our gain.
