The Llewellyn Encyclopedia

Term: Helena Petrovna Blavatsky

DEFINITIONS

Helena Petrovna Blavatsky: A Russian woman who was the guiding force behind the founding of the Theosophical Society. Many members of the Golden Dawn were also members of this society. Her importance is also due to two large books she wrote, Isis Unveiled and The Secret Doctrine. Many mystical and occult writings or so-called “channeling” are directly or indirectly based on these two books.
