The Satellite Meditation To Reconcile Oneself to Others
This article was written on October 06, 2008 posted under Self-Help
From The Fresh Start Promise, by Edwige Gilbert Imagine now that you are a satellite. As a satellite, you are both a receiver of energy and a transmitter of energy. The energy you send and receive travels around the globe. You are, in fact, an integral part of a much larger human energy transmission system. You are broadcasting at all times, day and night, whether you are aware of it or not. Tune in to your frequency now. Imagine that you are broadcasting pure loving kindness throughout the world. First, send a transmission to one you love dearly. Visualize that face as you do so—this is how you direct your transmission. Now broadcast the same loving kindness to an acquaintance, someone you know but do not necessarily love. Again, direct it by concentrating on this person’s face. Finally, think of one whom you once loved, but toward whom you now feel ambivalence or enmity because they have hurt or wronged you deeply. Take your time to do this, making sure it is kindness and goodwill you are transmitting. This person is, after all, worthy of kindness! This person too has suffered, is suffering now. Send this person compassion and loving kindness now. Take this moment to create the possibility of future love and harmony between you now. Think to yourself: I recognize that each is different. I respect the difference of others; I respect their uniqueness. Harmony, joy, and peace flow through me now. I wish happiness, peace, and the blessings of life to all. Cultivating loving kindness for others, especially those who have hurt us in some way, begins to clear the path toward reconciliation. This may be a most difficult challenge, but consider the price of failure. Trust that you will have the courage to accomplish this—know that your life can be utterly transformed through such reconciliations with others. Keep an open heart and an open mind. Believe, once again, that love is possible. Reflection: Applying the Satellite Meditation in Your Life Before you go to sleep tonight, reflect on the idea that you are a satellite, constantly sending and receiving emotional energies. If you can’t quite come to believe this rationally, make it a possibility at least—simply be open to the idea. Smile at the idea that out of your mind-body radiates an energy that travels the planet, from Albuquerque to the Azores, from Nantucket to Normandy and beyond. Run with the idea that you can use this network to broadcast kindness to the rest of humanity. Send some love right now. Consider sending a broadcast to those places torn by war or famine or disease. Use the images of the evening newscast in your visualization. Send loving kindness to the faces you saw from the comfort of your living room. Go to sleep with your transmitter on. The most peaceful night’s sleep to you now, dear reader.
