A sigh is a long out-breath that you can hear. Sighing can mean many things. It could be a sigh of exhaustion, a sigh of frustration, a sigh of relief, a sigh of contentment, or a sigh to relax. The magic of sighing is that it resets us physiologically and can reduce tension, stress, and irregular breathing in the body. Sighing inflates the alveoli (the little balloons in the lungs) and increases oxygen levels. Pause for a moment and become still. Close your eyes. Be aware of how your body feels right now. Are there any aches or pains, any tightness or strain? Take a deep breath and sigh it out. As you sigh, feel the release of all that strain. Again, breathe deeply and sigh it out, letting go of tension and achiness. Take one last deep breath and let out a long, loud sighing exhale. Scan your body again and notice the difference a sigh makes. Ahhhhhhhhhhh. |
