June is a popular month for weddings because it's sacred to Juno, goddess of marriage and hearth and home. While homemaking is a crucial step in the formation of a new family, its maintenance is just as important to established families. So take some time this month to make your house a home. You can do this in many ways. Spend a day on housecleaning. Refresh your supply of towels, rugs, linens, or other homey things. Bring in vases of fresh garden flowers; this is one time to prefer cultivated over wild ones. Find a figurine of Juno—replicas of classic ones are readily available online—or a motherly figure who can stand in for her. Sprinkle the statuette with earth and ash, then say: Juno, goddess of hearth and home, Ruler of mirror and of comb, Bless this place with your love and light As a refuge against the night. Keep the figurine in your kitchen or on a mantelpiece above a fireplace. |
