Never pick apples before Saint James Day
When they get their final blessing.
The apple is the centerpiece for spells concerning health and romance. The following charms date back many hundreds of years. Peel an apple in one continuous ribbon. If thrown over the left shoulder, the ribbon will resemble the initial letter of your future lover's name. Or place the ribbon behind your front door to summon your lover. The Danes believe if the apple presented to you by your lover withers, the giver is unfaithful. To reveal a future spouse's identity, name two apple seeds (known as pips) and place them on your cheek. The pip that sticks to your cheek is your future mate. Gamblers count the number of the pips in an apple to choose a lucky number. An apple a day keeps the doctor away. If you rub a birthmark with a piece of apple, the birthmark will then fade.
