Spell: Keepers of the Alphabet

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

A sizable garden orb-weaving spider appeared at my bedroom window early one morning. The web was large, covering almost the entire window, and thankfully it was on the outside of the glass pane. This allowed me to get quite close. Every morning for a week or so, the spider was there. Sometimes a future meal lay wrapped and suspended in the web. Before the sun rose all the way, the spider would be gone. One day I waited and watched to see where the spider went. It grabbed the meal, slowly descended the web, and crawled under a tab of siding.

A hard rain destroyed the web one night, and the spider never reappeared. It was simply fascinating to watch and such an inspiration to me. Spiders are the keepers of the alphabet, and being a writer, I took this to mean I'd better stop procrastinating and get working on several upcoming projects.

Teotihuacan and Arachne,
Spider women of all legends,
Spinners, weavers,
keepers of the alphabet,
Your beauty and perseverance
Inspire us in all things domestic
and literate.
