Spell: Who's Your Muse?

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

The daughters of Memory, the nine Greek muses, are as follows:

Clio: “fame-giver”
Euterpe: “joy-giver”
Thalia: “the festive”
Melpomene: “singing”
Terpsichore: “lover of dancing”
Erato: “awakener of desire”
Polyhymnia: “many hymns”
Urania: “heavenly”
Calliope: “beautiful voiced”

We honor the muses whenever we visit their home, the museum.

Poets, playwrights, and artists have always invoked their favorite muses. So why can’t ordinary people like us invoke them, too? Why can’t we appeal to the muse who most inspires us? Which muse will help us be better than we are, be more talented?

Consider what you enjoy, what you’re good at, what you want to do better. Read more about the muses and figure out who would best inspire you. When you’re ready, cast your circle and invoke your muse:

_____ (Name of muse), I ask
you to be present in my life.
Help me find mentors and teachers.
Remind me to practice what I learn
And to be faithful to you.
Gentle _____ (Name of muse),
inspire me to be the best I can be.
