Incense of the day: Frankincense The safety pin was patented on this day in 1849 by Walter Hunt. Imagine being able to join two or more things together without being pricked or stuck with the sharp point. Baby diapers could be pinned at long last, rather than tied, holding in all sorts of unpleasantness until it could be cleaned up at a more appropriate time. In our lives, we often end up with unpleasantness that cannot be handled in the present, and we end up dwelling on the situation for no good purpose. To hold things out of your life until they can be dealt with, write the issue in one succinct word on a small scrap of fabric. Fold the fabric into fourths. Write the date on which you will handle this problem on the outside of the cloth. Pin a tiny gold safety pin into the fabric so it will not come unfolded. Set it aside for the appropriate date, but do not forget to deal with the problem on that day! |
